Contracts & Agreements: What every public artist needs to know
There is more to a great work of public art than meets the eye. Many collaborations are required to bring a project to fruition, and each of those collaborations requires agreement among partners on terms, conditions, and costs.
From funders and venues to fabricators and installers, there are many negotiations to be made and contracts to be drafted. This engaging workshop will provide:
- An overview of the types of agreements common to the field of public art
- Successful negotiation practices for getting more of what you want without harming relationships
- Sample contracts for both small and large projects
- Tips for working with vendors (engineers, signage, contractors, foundries and others)
Presented by Jim Grace, Executive Director of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts of Massachusetts, this three-hour workshop will give participants a broad understanding of how to navigate the obligations and nuances of this important aspect of their artistic practice.
