National Native Artist Exchange Deadline

Rolling deadline: Requests must be received by NEFA no later than two calendar months prior to the departure date of the proposed trip.

Application Process

Applicants may receive on National Native Artist Exchange grant per NEFA fiscal year (June 1st through May 31st). If awarded, grant funds are paid to the applicant artist. When the exchange is complete, NEFA requires documentation of expenses (copies of receipts). Failure to supply complete documentation of expenses will disqualify applicant from future awards and unused funds must be returned. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding decisions are made within one month of receipt of all complete application materials.

Two Ways to Apply

1. Apply online! (COMING SOON) Fill out and submit your application electronically using NEFA's new online grant system.  
   
    
2. Apply by mail*: Fill out an interactive PDF online, print the form, and mail to NEFA. Application packets are to contain the following:
   1. One completed National Native Artist Exchange Application form.
   2. A one-page narrative that summarizes the value of this opportunity to you as an artist. Include the significance of this travel and address the goals of the exchange.
   3. A detailed budget, timeline, and planned outcomes.
   4. Applicant’s resume, artist statement, or biography.
   5. Collaborating artist’s resume, artist statement, or biography.
   6. Digital images of work (of applicant and collaborating artist), sent on a CD or emailed to nativearts@nefa.org (10MB maximum file size per email).
   7. Appropriate documentation of Native heritage for both the applicant and collaborating artist.
   8. Copy of correspondence between artists confirming the exchange.
