Tour Only grants are awarded to a limited number of projects that are fully created and ready to tour nationally, but were not developed with NDP Production grant funding.
Tour Only is awarded to dance projects based on applications NDP receives from presenters, artists, artist managers, and agents, and grants are made directly to presenters to cover up to 50% of the artistic fee. In selecting projects, NDP considers scale, geography, representation of diverse ethnicities and artistic forms, and createive ways of community engagement. Effective tour and engagement planning is essential for successful applications. Examples include tours to a limited number of venues (at least three in two states) that support expanded residencies and deeper involvement, or tours to a larger number of venues reaching new communities and audiences.
NDP has reserved $40,000 in touring subsidy per project to be allocated to presenters for up to 50% of the artistic fee per engagement. NDP will work to make additional funds available to projects that can utilize more than the initial allocation. Tour coordinators may indicate need for this increased allocation when they submit their initial tour grids.
General Process & Timeline
The Tour Only support selection process is divided into three stages:
STAGE 1
- October 16, 2009: Tour Only applications and related materials submitted to NEFA.
- November 2009: Applicants are notified. NEFA announces Tour Only selections.
STAGE 2
- December 2009 – February 2010: Performing arts presenters (and other nonprofit organizations) review the list of projects available for touring. Presenters interested in booking a project for the next season (June 1, 2010 - August 31, 2011) contact tour coordinators and engage in planning and negotiation.
- March 2, 2010: Presenters submit letters of intent to tour coordinators; tour coordinators submit interim tour grids to NEFA; initial tour grids reviewed by NEFA.
STAGE 3
- April 1, 2010: Presenters listed on the final tour grids submit Touring grant reserved funding applications to NEFA; tour coordinators submit final tour grids to NEFA.
- May 2010: Presenters are notified of grant awards.
