651 ARTS will present the three parts or “rites” of Edisa Weeks’ 3 RITES: Life, Liberty, Happiness from September through November 2023 in three different venues across New York City. Four work-in-progress showings of Life, the first rite, will take place at Chashama’s 1155 6th Ave. location Sept. 14-17. Community engagement components, including a creative reuse workshop and interactive mural, will be built into the presentation. Four performances of Liberty will take place at the Mark O’Donnell theater in Downtown Brooklyn Oct. 12-15, with each performance followed by a talkback. Four performances of Happiness will take place at Weeksville Heritage Center Nov. 16-18. These performances will include live music from the Occidental Brothers Dance Band International, a community meal, a portrait artist, and more.
