Asian Community Development Corporation is launching the Hudson Street Stoop, a rotating 18-month public art initiative to heal the growing social amnesia on Hudson Street amidst past and present displacement. Our inaugural installation is Gianna Stewart's (www.gianna.works), "Storytell and Sway" (May 2021-Oct2022), an outdoor play space with bright yellow, swing benches. Quotes from residents' stories are plasma cut into the swing bench backs. Each swing rings playful bells, purchased at Chinatown's gift shops and chosen by residents. "Storytell and Sway" will inspire more storytelling and artmaking that celebrate collective grit and imagination.
