Assitan “Sita” Coulibaly’s (she/her) project aims to support cultural preservation by performing + documenting + teaching traditional West African dance at the Yeredon Festival in November 2023. Sita’s work aims to provide access to Afro-diasporic cultural heritage, particularly for intergenerational Black artists + families while fostering understanding and appreciation among the broader intersectional community. Assi’s project promotes creative community building, cultural diversity, and historic preservation through West African dance + heritage. Sita’s involvement with the Yeredon Festival, in cooperation with The Yeredon Centre for the Malian Arts, provides a platform for diverse artists and communities to strengthen their movement practice and sustain + preserve traditional Black+ African lineages of art. Ultimately, this project seeks to bridge cultural divides, foster understanding, and celebrate the richness of history + tradition through cultural preservation.
