Tim Eriksen and Omar Sosa will spend two days rehearsing at Bombyx in advance of their New England tour. The artists will lead a participatory lecture demonstration that will be FREE and open to the community. Finally, they will present an evening concert in our Sanctuary space before heading north to the Chocolate Church in Bath, ME.
The song "Gabriel's Trumpet" (work sample attached) can be traced to Camden - about an hour north of Bath. The composition uses “shapenote” singing as a starting place from which to explore rhythms and textures of overlapping influences across time. This form of singing was popular in Northampton and Florence, MA in the 18th and 19th centuries and has seen a resurgence in recent decades, due in no small part to Eriksen's passion and scholarship. This collaborative project encourages audiences to experience history viscerally - hearing it and feeling in their bodies.
