“Rhapsody in Black" is written & performed by Leland Gantt, directed by Estelle Parsons, and developed at NYC’s Actor’s Studio. Rhapsody in Black follows Gantt’s life story from an underprivileged childhood in Pennsylvania to teenage experiments with drugs and crime to scholastic achievements and a successful acting career – ultimately landing him in situations where he is often the only African American in the room. His story of coping with being “the Other” is moving and compelling and shines a light on what it means to be Black in American today. In addition to post-performance talk backs at both school and evening performances, the CCA plans to work with Gantt on workshops for local high school actors at Concord High and adult actors through a partnership with local company, Theater Kapow.
