Celebrity Series of Boston

Celebrity Series will present the spectacular and exuberant three-time Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir during their return to North America with “HOPE – It’s Been A Long Time Coming”. This special program will celebrate American and South African artists associated with the struggles for civil rights and social justice throughout their countries’ complex histories. They will perform South African freedom songs as well as music of Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Mahalia Jackson and others combined with traditional African gospel music and spirituals. Direct from South Africa, Soweto Gospel Choir is an awe-inspiring 20-member ensemble that thrills audiences worldwide. In addition to their performance, choir members will engage with local youth arts students through an open rehearsal and discussion.
