"Mariology" is a multi-modal performance which explores the profound impact of the Virgin Mary, as a weapon of control and colonization, as well as a source of faith and comfort for many people. The piece detonates ingrained beliefs about gender and power, illuminating shards of the Virgin emerging from the collective, and personal, unconscious, and challenges how she shapes behavior and culture. The classroom setting is a magical, transformational space, from which emerges a kaleidoscopic montage of heightened physicality, surreal images, song, live video and electric music. An interactive installation leads audiences into the performance, engaging mind, senses, and spirit.
