The Dance Hall will present the Fabiola Mendez Trio in the fall of 2023 as a part of her New England Tour, made possible by partnering with The Center for Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA and BarnArts Center for the Arts in Barnard, VT. Fabiola Mendez is a Puerto Rican cuatro player, educator, and composer that has spearheaded a musical movement and fresh musical style, integrating elements from folk, jazz & Latin music. In her most recent album, “Afrorriqueña” (2021), Fabiola reflects on the experience of being a black Puerto Rican woman. Prior to her performance at The Dance Hall, Fabiola and her band will offer a workshop, free and open to the public, at the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center. Fabiola will draw on her background as an educator to explore subjects such as music, art and language through the lens of Puerto Rican folk music. Tickets for the concert will cost $20, with a $10 student option and free admission available to low-income community members.
