Although the story of Native American slavery is relatively unknown, it is foundational to the continent and felt in the deeply aching consciousness of many of its heirs. Dancing Earth breaks the silence with the choreo-archive, BOUND-UNBOUND: Moving Shadows of Indigenous Slavery, inspired by and in collaboration with scholar Dr. Estevan Rael-Gálvez. Grounded in his 30 years of research, BOUND-UNBOUND includes community engagement and dialogue; contemporary dance ritual; and a series of place-based performances incorporating oral history soundscapes, documentary film footage, an exhibition of post-1848 photos of the enslaved, and other archival records.
