Emily Coates and Manou Phuon are dancers/scholars/choreographers who are developing new dance works that exist at the intersections of science and dance. This will be a 10-day developmental residency during which the artists will take advantage of Dartmouth’s archives, resources, and professors’ expertise to develop new works. Phuon’s project relies on biology and dendrology research, while Coates’ project relies on astronomy research. They will also conduct workshops for students, public talks, in-progress showings, and will prepare for the summer 2022 presentation of the finished pieces in site-specific outdoor locations around campus.
