Dayenne is an artivist and a long-time resident of Boston, MA. Billboard Hope began back in January 2021, when she noticed that billboard on the corner of Roxbury and Centre Streets in Boston was an eyesore. “We deserve better,” Dayenne thought. After some negotiation on pricing with the billboard owner, Billboard Hope was formed and became the sole “advertiser”. Every 4 weeks, a different local visual artist’s work is featured. Billboards in predominantly Black neighborhoods typically advertise products that don’t benefit the community—soda, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. What if we advertised joy on a daily basis? What would be the effect of that marketing campaign?
