Doudna Fine Arts Center will present The Seldoms in Power Goes, a dance theater work about power with performances, and workshops. Drawing on the figure of Lyndon Baines Johnson as subject and metaphor, the work explores how power is acquired and yielded, how it can be deployed for action, and, conversely, how it can be used to maintain the status quo and block change. Power Goes considers politics as performance, positing that making and implementing good legislation is not the ideal of "the best argument wins.” Rather, with performances on public stages and behind the scenes in intimate exchanges bodies lean in, bear down and rise up, agitating toward,or away from, social action.
