With the support of the New England Dance Fund, I will extend a residency at the Quick Center for the Arts in March 2024 from half a week to a full week, covering the artist fees for my collaborators. This time will give me the opportunity to advance my ideas for a new project that synthesizes my own kinesthetic histories as a former member of New York City Ballet—who went on to dance with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Twyla Tharp, and Yvonne Rainer—to create place-based performance, using George Balanchine’s history in New England as a point of departure to think about how the body and spirit of dance artists scatter, living on in unexpected places. I will be drawing bits of archival materials and new choreographic embodiments into new forms and exploring what it means to champion this region's role in larger dance history through the creation of an original work of performance.
