FirstWorks brings Haitian-born, Harlem-raised composer, musician, and activist Daniel Bernard Roumain to Providence, RI, to create a place-specific iteration of En Masse, his audience-immersive, musical, aural, and visual experience, scored for up to 500 musicians from string quartets to marching bands. Under DBR's musical direction, En Masse will take over the Parade Grounds of the Cranston St. Armory, culminating with a concert - a cross between a flash mob, a pep rally, and a processional - in the city's West End during PVDFest. DBR will engage students through workshops, participate in an Art Activating Community panel, and enrich our community as both artist and thought leader.
