Debo Band will be a featured musical act at the fourth annual PVDFest held in Providence, June 7-10, 2018. This critically acclaimed Ethiopian collective incorporates traditional scales and vocal styles alongside American soul and funk rhythms, with instrumentation reminiscent of eastern European brass bands. A Debo Band performance in Providence will enrich the Creative Capital's local drumming community through collaboration with African drummers Sidy Maiga & AfriManding, frequent FirstWorks artists. Master percussionist from Mali and current Providence resident, Maiga is trained in complex traditional music of Mali and versed in Caribbean and hip-hop rhythms.
