FirstWorks and Brown Arts Institute at Brown University will partner to co-present the legendary Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company in their new monumental work “What Problem?”. Centered on key themes of community, isolation, and belonging in a fractious America, residency engagements will bring the arts and humanities together for individual reflection and community healing. 26 local community participants will perform alongside the company, making the performance unique and relevant to Rhode Island audiences.
Activities will include a creative conversation with scholars, town hall, commissioned essay, and educational engagements to maximize our impact and build rich context around the performance. Jones’ residency is part of FirstWorks’ long-arc “Raise Your Voice” programming spotlighting BIPOC artists and creating dialogue about how the arts play a role in addressing inequities and building community.
