I saw a crescent moon above a branch of silver... (working title) is a new multimedia theatre work that imagines a lost queer history through an invocation of pre-modern poetry from across the Eastern Mediterranean. This performance bridges ancient and contemporary expressions of desire animated by Four Larks’ “visually enthralling” musical and physical theatre (Los Angeles Times). We mine the distant past to dream a queer future, weaving archaic and living languages, traditional and electronic instruments, folk dance and contemporary movement. The creation and performance of this work is a quest for a collective queer liturgy by an international ensemble of transdisciplinary artists led by director Mat Sweeney, creative producer Sebastian Peters-Lazaro, and filmmaker Mohammad Shawky Hassan.
Land Acknowledgement: Four Larks gives thanks and respect to the Tongva/Gabrielino, and Chumash people - ancestors, elders, and our contemporaries - who are the original and ongoing caretakers of the unceded land that we occupy today.
