Truth: A bio-fictional choreopoem is a performance combining music, text, poetry, spoken word, dramatic storytelling and dance to share and express the story and words of Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman and other lesser-known self-emancipating women. The work will offer a more historically accurate narrative of our nation, the origins of our current capitalistic system, and its resistors: Black Abolitionists. This re-visioning will highlight the invisible female labor that has been the taproot for the civil rights movement, and the eventual blossoming of Black women’s philosophical self-understanding in the form of womanism and African Diasporic feminisms.
