In celebration of Rennie Harris Puremovement’s (RHPM) 30th Anniversary, the company remounts their seminal work, Rome & Jewels, a Hip-hop reimagining of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The New England tour of Rome & Jewels includes performances on July 28 & 29, 2022 at the Bates Dance Festival (ME), January 28, 2023 presented by Global Arts Live (MA) and November 18, 2023 hosted by First Works (RI).
Global Arts Live has supported RHPM since first presenting their work in 2003. In addition to the performance and a post-performance dialogue, Global Arts Live will host a masterclass taught by Rennie Harris for the Greater Boston Hip-hop community and an online discussion with Harris to discuss the development of Rome & Jewels and its impact on the evolution, accessibility, and popularity of street dance forms on the concert dance stage.
