The Harris Theater presents Ragamala Dance Company in ‘Fires of Varanasi: Dance of the Eternal Pilgrim’ on December 2, 2021. Through images that reflect sacred pilgrimage routes, the Ganges River, and the patron deity Shiva ‘Fires of Varanasi’ evokes an elaborate ritual where time is suspended and humans merge with the divine.
The performance will be accompanied by a virtual panel with choreographers and co-artistic directors Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy, available for free on the Harris Theater Virtual Stage. Teaching artist from Ragamala Dance Company will join Chicago high school students for a class on the techniques of Bharatanatyam dance following the performance.
