A Host of People is creating two new works – Peregrina and Shining Cities – that will premiere in Detroit in Fall and Winter 2024, with the intent of touring both – independently or together – beginning in 2025. In addition, these works will inaugurate a 3-year theme, Good Ancestors, investigating a shared question: How can present day humans be good ancestors for our future descendants? Peregrina and Shining Cities represent efforts by the company to investigate new modes of making and presenting our work. Both are performed by one person, but created very much in the collaborative, ensemble spirit that is core to our identity. While Shining Cities is a group-made piece that will feature ensemble members on video projection, it can be performed live by a rotating operator which will ensure greater touring flexibility. Peregrina is a very personal bilingual solo work created with and performed by long-term ensemble member Karilú Alarcón Forshee, who is driven to tour the piece widely.
