“From Protests to Pride: Generations of Villa Victoria” is a project led by IBA’s Arts Program in collaboration with our artist in residence, Ashley Martínez Rivera. Highlighting the the community’s original fight against displacement, this project serves as a lasting tribute to Villa Victoria’s enduring legacy of activism, unity, and pride. Using archival images, residents of Villa Victoria and members of IBA will create collages that explore themes of legacy and community resilience. Youth will interview elders in the community, capturing their stories and transforming them into a children’s book inspired by these narratives. The youth-created book will be shared with children in the community. The project will culminate in a public art installation in Plaza Betances, symbolizing the resilience of Villa Victoria. This installation will reimagine the foundation of IBA and the Villa Victoria community, reflecting their history of connection and collective action.
