The Joyce will promote and present dancer Wendy Whelan and cellist Maya Beiser in seven performances featuring the U.S. debut of Joyce-commissioned "The Day" by Lucinda Childs, with evocative music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang, at The Joyce Theater, October 22–27, 2019. Featuring both women onstage for the duration of the work “The Day” is a meditation on two journeys—the mortal passage, followed by the eternal voyage of the soul. Including spoken word and live-feed camera projections, the dance/music work creates a hyper-reality environment as it evolves into a reflective and highly personal meditation on the universal themes of memory, aging, death, and hope.
