Project Misik: A Yard by the Malden River, is a partnership between all-female multi-ethnic band Zili Misik (www.zilimisik.com) and Malden River Works (www.maldenriverworks.org), inviting community to create a "Yard" -- a space in which, through music and dance, we will highlight stories of BIPOC folkx in Malden, connect our own, & tell them by the riverside. Our Yard will feature Zili in conversation with poet Letta Neely, Haitian master drummer & choreographer Peniel Guerrier, steel pannist Becky Bass, gwenyambira (mbira player) Solomon Murungu, & Afrobeats DJ Lady Ly, in two days of interactive workshops & performances (www.projectmisik.com). We intend to reclaim public space on the riverfront & to build common knowledge, community and respect among us, particularly for marginalized people of African descent.
