MEDITATIONS FROM A GARDEN SEAT is an interdisciplinary piece that challenges common perceptions of the incarcerated. It draws upon an essay by social critic Harriet Beecher Stowe and narratives, songs, and dances by contemporary women in or just out of prison. For some 30 women at York Correctional, the prison garden became a source of healing and regeneration. The material they created with Judy Dworin became the seed for this piece which incorporates movement, song, text, visuals by scenographer Marcela Oreiza and sound by Martiza Ubides.
