The Ko Festival of Performance’s '17 season of original devised work has been curated on the theme of "TACTICS FOR TRYING TIMES." The season opens with HartBeat Ensemble’s "JIMMY AND LORRAINE". Written by Talvin Wilks, this play takes us to another turbulent era in American politics, giving us insight into the late 50's and early 60's through the lens of two of the leading artists and social activists of that time, James Baldwin and Lorraine Hansberry. The piece shows the loving support they gave each other in navigating the challenging terrain of race, class, gender, sexuality and artmaking—as they worked to forge a new America that would debunk all notions of second-class citizenship.
