An original work inspired by Octavio Paz’s The Labyrinth of Solitude (9 essays about Mexican thought and identity), Solitude explores love, death, destiny, and family via a contemporary lens. On the day of the million immigrant march, Gabriel invites his old neighborhood friends over after his mother’s funeral. As the wine pours and mambo explodes, they share secrets, cry together, laugh together, sing rancheras, dance, and confess. Written by the Latino Theater Company’s resident playwright, Evelina Fernandez, Solitude premiered in the Fall of 2009 at the Los Angeles Theatre Center for a 5-week run (L.A. Times Critics Choice, Ovation nominee).
