The Honolulu Theatre for Youth has invited the Lied Center to a special convening around their touring work The Pa’akai We Bring (formerly titled I Lala Mauliola). They want to be sure that as they develop the piece, they will be looking to reset or adapt to how they enter communities and especially how they will represent indigenous culture both inside and outside Hawaii. For our community this will be very important.
The company has invited a few presenters to come to Hawaii for an early sharing of the work in process. We will also be able to see a variety of other work they are or have created and to see it all in the context of their venue and community. By being in community with them, in their home, they hope to understand the pathway to presenting work in our respective community's and/or determine if this is the right work to share with your community. An incredible chance to see the work, but also a chance for deep conversation about the work and their philosophy.
