Live Arts Miami will present the world premiere of Urban Bush Women's (UBW) latest dance-theater work, Haint Blu in Miami March 7-12, 2023. Known as the color that Southern families paint their front porches to ward off bad spirits, Haint Blu will take audiences on an immersive dance-theater journey throughout the Historic Hampton House, the famed Green Book hotel, exploring the movements, histories, and stories of community elders and ancestors. This will be the culmination of a multi-year project commissioned by Live Arts Miami, which featured the company visiting Miami three separate times for in-depth research and residency, where they met with community groups, held workshops at Miami Dade College and the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, and toured The Black Archives, HistoryMiami, and sites and neighborhoods of significance to Black Miami led by historian Marvin Dunn. UBW has also engaged on multiple occasions with students at Miami Dade College as part of this engagement.
