Mahaney Arts Center

Maheney Center for the Arts at Middlebury College brings fiddler Jenny Scheinman and her band to Middlebury to perform “Kannapolis: a Moving Portrait” in March 2017. Scheinman’s moving original music, paired with filmmaker Finn Taylor’s compilation of depression-era documentary style footage by North Carolina filmmaker H. Lee Waters, creates a fascinating and soulful performance. Through public residency activities and a performance, the community will explore issues of race and class in American society; the concept of “the gaze” both then and now; and the evolution of former mill towns typical of Vermont and New England.
