Tarish “Jeghetto” Pipkins will spend a weekend in residency at Mayo Street Arts (MSA) offering two performances and a pair of professional development workshops.
Using music, video, and magical marionettes, the “The Hip Hopera of 5P1N0K10” spins the classic story of Pinocchio as an Afrofuturist parable about a robot that longs to be a real B-boy in a post-apocalyptic future. 5P1N0K0 encounters racism, oppression, and police brutality along his journey. This “artivism” performance for adult audiences offers a creative expresion of the artist’s views on social justice and gives the audience a call to consciousness.
“Jeghetto’s Workshop,” is a family show for all ages, allowing the younger members of MSA’s community to experience the magic of found object puppetry. The audience is invited to join Jeghetto in his workshop—volunteering on stage as puppeteers—and learn about the artist’s building process as he gets lost in his magical world of puppetry and creativity.
