Laura Sánchez—an award-winning flamenco artist, creator, choreographer and educator originally from Cádiz, Spain—will spend two days in residency at Mayo Street Arts, performing with artists from Maine and offering a flamenco workshop for mothers from our neighborhood and local community.

Two evenings of traditional tablao performance will showcase solo and ensemble dances with live music. Lindsey Bourassa, Executive & Artistic Director of Maine’s newly-formed nonprofit FLOR (Flamenco and its Origins), will join Laura on the floor accompanied by Behzad Habibzai on guitar and cajon, as well as a singer who will be selected by FLOR in conversation with Laura.

While in Portland, Laura will also conduct a free two-day flamenco workshop for mothers with mixed levels of movement experience.
