Altar No. 3: I Choose to Remember Us Whole
Public Art Event
At this moment when social issues like inequality can separate us, award-winning artist Daniel Alexander Jones invites us to meditate on wholeness with a ritual art performance and community event, to help us navigate rifts and imagine new possibilities in our world.
Five Seattle community-based artists and Jones will construct a series of altars in public spaces and on the University of Washington campus. The public is invited to join in a processional performance, to activate the altars, discover movement meditations, cultural tradition, and an act of imagining. A celebration of music and dance is set to kick-off a related art exhibit. Dancers will present their work from a semester-long course at University of Washington, Moving Altars, inspired by this work. Community participants can reflect on memory and add their comment cards to an ongoing art exhibit The Henry Art Museum.
