Miami Light Project will present Kota Yamazaki’s newest dance project, "OQ" (ōkyu is the phonetic reading of the Japanese word for "palace"), draws inspiration from the highly ritualized Japanese utakai poetry-reading ceremonies performed at the Imperial Palace since ancient times. Commissioned by Japan Society (NY), this work involves an international team of artists including New York architect collective So-il (Florian Idenburg of Holland and Jing Liu of China), Japanese composer Masahiro Sugaya, lighting designer Kathy Kaufmann, and six dancers from diverse cultural backgrounds trained in different dance techniques.
