“The Encounter: Providence” is a dance-theater work by New York choreographer/director Kimberly Bartosik. Created specifically with and for the Providence community, Bartosik will work with local professional, pre-professional and non-professional performers to create an intergenerational, cross-geographic conversation about the ferocious power of the body as a form of communication. The work is intended as an encounter with oneself, pulling from that which we are currently carrying—grief, hope, fear, desire, power—and pairing it with our dreams, as we dig out of the pandemics of this age.

Motion State Arts will present two public performances of The Encounter, as part of the Motion State Dance Festival in March 2024. The full engagement includes a public workshop, master class and two-week creation/rehearsal period with a diverse local ensemble of intergenerational community performers. The Encounter has occurred in Buffalo, NYC and Italy; future locations include Ohio and Maine.
