Contra-Tiempo, Urban Latin Dance Theatre from Los Angeles, CA, will present one public performance of Agua Furiosa at Macey Center on Fri., Oct. 28; three lec-dem-workshops for Alamo-Navajo, Magdalena and Socorro, grades K-8; and one workshop for dance students. Agua Furiosa confronts harsh realities of race in the USA. Inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Oya, the Afro-Cuban deity of wind and storms, choreographer Ana Maria Alvarez harnesses her unique Urban-Latin movement approach to create a visually stunning and thought provoking performance that merges call and response, a live vocalist, water themes, fierce physicality and the performers’ personal narratives.
