Presenting one performance of “Stories from Home,” dance works embodying the oral traditions of Nuevomexicano, Chicano, and Mexican American communities in the Southwest, on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Macey Center in Socorro, NM; with a pre-show panel of local Hispanic women and reception for Socorro County Women’s Art Showcase; and post-show Q&A. On August 21-25, 2023, Yvonne Montoya and dancers were in-residence rehearsing and doing outreach--dinners with Montoya families we thought might be Yvonne’s relatives; lec-dem and 2 workshops at the Alamo-Navajo community, for elementary students and multi-generation Zumba class; preceding the public mini performance were dance and storytelling workshops; post-show Q&A; and a free Mexican dinner for ~100 attendees and dancers. Our recordings of these activities were used at the WAA Conference for Yvonne’s showcases. Leading up to March 1, we will interview locals about their own “stories from home” in Socorro, to be shown at the performance.
