An enormous blanket of interconnected crocheted and frame loom panels created by and claiming space for 40 long-term survivors of HIV/AIDS who have been stigmatized, traumatized, and forced to hide in plain sight due to HIV status. The work will be displayed in well-accessed common spaces on the North Shore accompanied by statements detailing the artists’ stories of friendship and connection and lived experiences of being in public spaces with HIV, so viewers may come to recognize and understand this hidden community of survivors. The artists hope the healing, belonging, and meaning found in creating art as a collective inspires a national movement of HIV long-term survivor visibility.
