Song of the Jasmine is conceived by dancer/choreographer Aparna Ramaswamy & created with jazz saxophonist/composer Rudresh Mahanthappa. As first-generation Indian-American artists whose bicultural identities have influenced their artistry in different ways, they share a vision to create innovative contemporary work rooted in a profound understanding & enduring respect for tradition. Commissioned by the Walker Art Center (MN) & Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (MD), Song of the Jasmine will premiere at the Walker in May, 2014.
