REDCAT

REDCAT presents the West Coast premiere of FORCE! an opera in three acts by Anna Martine Whitehead and a constellation of freedom dreamers. Three performances are presented of this performance combining sound and movement to consider the prison as a particular prism through which we can bear witness to the ways carceral systems replicate themselves. Created through years of performances in and around prisons, this piece that features collaborations with composer Ayanna Woods and Angel Bat Dawid lifts up the relationships of women and femmes in the waiting areas—the loved ones forced into a complex intimacy both tied and always resistant to the carceral institution. Performances are accompanied by a contextual community event with Crenshaw Dairy Mart, an abolition oriented arts collective and gallery in Inglewood.
