"Ce que le jour doit à la nuit" (“What the day owes to the night”) by French Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi fuses contemporary dance with martial arts, urban dance and capoeira and a mixed score of recorded Sufi music by The Kronos Quartet, North African music and a selection from J. S. Bach. Inspired by a late discovery of family roots in Algeria, Koubi created this piece with twelve Algerian and Brukinabé dancers, mostly with a street dance background. The Redfern hosts Compagnie Hervé KOUBI from October 20-21, 2017 for one performance and outreach activities that include a hip-hop masterclass, a pre-show traditional tea ceremony and post-show dialogue with the company.
