Described by the Washington Post as “a stunning fusion of acrobatics, gymnastics, b-boying, modern dance, and ballet,” "What the Day Owes to the Night" is a breathtaking adaptation of the eponymous novel by Algerian novelist Yasmina Khadra. Set in the years of the French occupation of Algeria (1830-1962), the novel tells the story of a young Algerian boy who must journey to rediscover himself and his country. Using this narrative as a backdrop, choreographer Hervé Koubi utilizes the skill and precision of his company of twelve Algerian and Burkinabé dancers to create a marvelous, unified body of movement that eloquently mélanges power, tenderness, and sensuality.
