Debo Band, a 10-piece Ethiopian pop group based in Boston, will return to SPACE Gallery, where they performed in 2012, for a live concert to be held at our venue located in Downtown Portland, Maine. In addition to the live performance, we are working with Danny Mekonnen, ethnomusicologist, band leader and founder of Debo Band, and other members of the group on a residency guiding our audiences through an exploration of traditional and modern Ethiopian musical styles. Outreach activities planned include lecture/demo held in advance of the concert and a post-concert reception.
