SPACE seeks funding to present Boston's Kotoko Brass on Portland's Western Prom as part of the summer's Western Prom concert series, following the presentation of Western African influenced band Sabouyouma in 2022 and intergenerational Congolese brass group Fanfare Kimbanguiste in 2023. With Kotoko's Ghanaian drums and more broadly West African inspired brass sound, SPACE will use NEFA NEST funds to bring a free and accessible contemporary take on traditions from the African continent for the outdoor community concert calendar of Portland in August of 2024.
