SPACE

SPACE will welcome Boston-based choreographer Michael Figueroa to present "This is why we can't have nice things" in collaboration with five dancers. Figueroa has developed a practice around audience participation and improvisation with his group Ruckus Dance, but this is his first evening-length work that will be a significant departure from those practices. The piece explores physical excess, humor, and the threshold between the awkward and the skilled. After participating in the "Moving in SPACE" WIP series in 2018, SPACE has been discussing this work's debut during Portland Dance Month 2019, starting a tradition of broader New England artist development and the debuting of work for PDM.
