A durational performance art work in which Taylor Mac, his collaborators, and his audience together create a subjective history of America through the last 240 years of popular music. This ritual performance work, about how and why, under difficult, dire, and trying circumstances, we create community, consists of 240 popular songs from 1776 to 2016 with original text and audience participation. The production will be launched at St. Ann's Warehouse over three weeks in eight three-decade acts, culminating in a 24-hour grand finale of the entire cycle with Taylor performing throughout, accompanied by more than 100 performers: dancers, choirs, marching bands, and a 24-piece-orchestra.
