I am seeking funding for the opportunity to participate in the creation of science-themed murals and public outreach events for a first-of-its-kind festival along the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso, TX in collaboration with the inaugural Sun City Art+Science Festival, Rio Bosque Wetlands Park, UTEP Center for Environmental Management, the We are Water working group, and the Science Festival Alliance. Contributing to the creation of murals/public engagement with these partners will allow me to learn from and collaborate with bi-national muralists, artists, scientists, and educators in an underserved community. The skills I acquire and initiatives I help implement through this opportunity are directly related to my public art practice in New England and will propel my efforts in Cambridge to create ART+BIO Science Murals and design Public Art and Science Outreach initiatives that empower communities of color and work to achieve spatial justice through science education and public art.
